Hi Laura,

I know what you mean with these tins but I have found a solution that works with all my character/novelty tins, I grease them with a thin film of old fashioned lard and dust with flour like yourself, marg or butter dont work. The mix that I use for all my sponge cakes is brilliant and works everytime and does not stick....... (yipee!) mix is as follows:

5oz marg/butter I always use stork....
5oz caster sugar
6oz self raising flour
1 tsp vanilla extract
3 small eggs or 2 large ish
if you are making chocolate sponge subsitute 1oz of flour for 1oz of cocoa powder.......
cook on gas mark between 5-6 180-190 for electric.......
hope you suceed with this recipe as I do....

Smile Getting your giant cupcake out!

Hi Laura,
I had one of these tins for Christmas and have just made my first 2 giant cupcakes. I bought a tin of spray cake release. The make is Dubor and its a tall orange aerosol tin with a white lid. I literally gave the tin a quick spray just before putting the cake mix in, nothing else and when the cake was cooked and ready to turn out, I turned the tin over and it fell out so quickly I almost broke the cake. It was quite expensive at £6.99 but the tin is very big 600ml and looks as though it will last a long time.
